MORGAN HILL — October 26, 2026. People traveling along Monterey Road between Old Monterey Road and Wright Avenue should expect sidewalk detours and restricted parking during utility work tied to the Magnolias residential development at 17965 Monterey Road.
What construction involves
The city says crews are moving existing overhead utilities underground, placing new street medians along the project’s frontage and completing related infrastructure work. Construction is expected to continue until January 2027, but the extent of daily restrictions depends on the contractor’s activity.
During active work hours, sidewalks in the work zone will be closed, and crews will route pedestrians around the affected segment. On-street parking may be restricted. Residents and businesses should look for temporary posted directions, especially if they use mobility devices or walk children to nearby destinations.
Not a full closure of Monterey Road
The city’s bulletin does not describe an indefinite shutdown of the entire corridor to vehicles. Rather, it names intermittent pedestrian and parking impacts from utility construction. Drivers should reduce speed near crews and use official signage instead of relying on outdated navigation reports.
The city lists its inspection contact Tim Benton at Tim.Benton@morganhill.ca.gov and 408-776-7333.
