MORGAN HILL — October 26, 2026. City officials continue to list the Madrone Channel Trail between Cochrane Road and Main Avenue as closed while Valley Water makes improvements to a check dam in the channel.

When might access return?

The trail has been closed since July 13, and Morgan Hill’s current work bulletin says the project is expected to finish by the end of October. But the city says the trail will not reopen until work inside the channel is complete; users should rely on actual posted signs, not interpret the target date as confirmation the trail is open today.

Why crews need the space

Check dams and related drainage structures are part of the region’s water-management infrastructure. Construction requires access for vehicles, materials and heavy equipment. The city asks walkers and cyclists to respect the closure, both to protect themselves and to avoid interfering with crews.

Residents can check updated city roadwork notices for any revised completion date, trail detour or temporary access route. This restriction affects a named segment of Madrone Channel Trail, not all of Morgan Hill’s trails.
